Vesugen is a synthetic tripeptide, Lys-Glu-Asp (KED). It belongs to a family of short peptides, two to four amino acids long, that Vladimir Khavinson's group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology studies for their effects on gene expression in cell-culture models of aging, here with a focus on blood-vessel cells.
It has 3 amino acids (H-Lys-Glu-Asp-OH), a molecular formula of C15H26N4O8, a molar mass of 390.4 g/mol and CAS number 204271-66-9; the full identifiers are in the lab sheet above. ORP supplies it as a lyophilized powder for in vitro and preclinical research only. It is not for human or animal use and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
In a 2014 study in Advances in Gerontology, Vesugen raised levels of the proliferation marker Ki-67, which falls with age, in vascular endothelial cell cultures from young and old animals. A 2012 study in the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine reported that it stimulated expression of differentiation factors in fibroblasts, more strongly in aged cultures.
A 2021 study in Pharmaceuticals examined KED and the related tripeptide EDR in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease, building on cell-model work in which both prevented amyloid-related loss of dendritic spines. A 2020 study in Molecular Biology Reports tested KED alongside AED and KE on aging-related genes such as TERT and FOXO1 in human mesenchymal stem cells.
Almost all published work on KED comes from this one research group and uses cell-culture and animal models, so independent replication is limited. Related peptides in this catalog from the same research program are Cartalax (Ala-Glu-Asp) and Epithalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly).
Researchers usually confirm identity against the sequence and a molar mass of about 390 by mass spectrometry, and purity by HPLC. A third-party certificate of analysis is not published here for this product; contact ORP before ordering if your work needs particular identity or purity tests.
The areas where this compound appears in the published research literature.
Published KED work uses vascular endothelial, fibroblast, mesenchymal stem cell and neuronal cultures, often comparing young and aged cells, plus mouse models, with gene-expression, protein-marker and dendritic-spine readouts.
Identity is confirmed against the sequence H-Lys-Glu-Asp-OH and its molar mass by mass spectrometry, and purity by HPLC. Each research protocol sets its own model, controls, concentrations and handling; this listing supplies the compound, not a protocol.
Store lyophilized Vesugen at -20°C, sealed and protected from light and moisture. Let the vial reach room temperature before opening so moisture does not condense on the powder.
Reconstituted peptide solutions are commonly held at 2-8°C and divided into single-use aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Validate the solvent, concentration and use period for your own protocol.
