Overview

About Gonadorelin

Gonadorelin is the synthetic form of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), the hypothalamic peptide that signals the pituitary to release luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Because it sits at the top of the reproductive hormone axis, gonadorelin is a standard tool in reproductive neuroendocrine research.

It has 10 amino acids (pGlu-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Arg-Pro-Gly-NH2), a molar mass of 1182.3 g/mol and CAS number 33515-09-2; the full identifiers are in the lab sheet above. ORP supplies it as a lyophilized powder for in vitro and preclinical research only. It is not for human or animal use and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Its sequence is identical to native mammalian GnRH, also called GnRH-I. Both ends are blocked: the N-terminus is a pyroglutamic acid ring and the C-terminus is a glycine amide. Gonadorelin is often supplied as an acetate salt (gonadorelin acetate, CAS 34973-08-5); the formula and molar mass on this page are for the free peptide.

The structure was reported in 1971 by Andrew Schally's group, in two papers in Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications on the porcine LH- and FSH-releasing hormone, and Roger Guillemin's group characterized the ovine hormone soon after. Schally and Guillemin shared the 1977 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on the peptide hormones of the brain.

In 1978, Belchetz, Knobil and colleagues reported in Science that the pituitary keeps releasing LH and FSH when GnRH arrives in pulses, but that continuous exposure suppresses that release. The finding that the pattern of GnRH signaling matters as much as the amount still shapes how GnRH is used in research on the reproductive axis. Upstream of GnRH sits kisspeptin, which drives the GnRH-releasing neurons through the receptor GPR54.

Researchers usually confirm identity against the sequence and a molar mass of about 1,182 (free peptide) by mass spectrometry, and purity by HPLC. A third-party certificate of analysis is not published here for this product; contact ORP before ordering if your work needs particular identity or purity tests.

Storage protocols

Gonadorelin storage and handling

Lyophilized
-20°C
Long-term storage, as supplied
Reconstituted
2-8°C
In solution
Full handling protocol+

Store lyophilized gonadorelin at -20°C, sealed and protected from light and moisture. Let the vial reach room temperature before opening so moisture does not condense on the powder.

Reconstituted peptide solutions are commonly held at 2-8°C and divided into single-use aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Validate the solvent, concentration and use period for your own protocol.

FAQ

Gonadorelin FAQ

What is gonadorelin?
Gonadorelin is synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), the 10-amino-acid hypothalamic peptide that triggers the release of LH and FSH from the pituitary. It is used in reproductive neuroendocrine research. ORP sells it for laboratory research only.
What is the gonadorelin amino acid sequence?
pGlu-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Arg-Pro-Gly-NH2, with a pyroglutamic acid at the N-terminus and an amidated C-terminus. It has 10 residues, molecular formula C55H75N17O13 and a molar mass of 1182.3 g/mol.
What is the CAS number for gonadorelin?
33515-09-2 for the free peptide. Gonadorelin acetate, a common salt form, is 34973-08-5. The PubChem compound ID is 638793.
Is gonadorelin the same as GnRH?
Yes. Gonadorelin is the name for synthetic GnRH with the native sequence (GnRH-I), also called LHRH. Longer-acting compounds such as leuprolide and triptorelin are modified analogs with different sequences, not gonadorelin.
What receptor does gonadorelin bind?
The GnRH receptor (GnRHR), a G protein-coupled receptor on the gonadotrope cells of the anterior pituitary.
Why does the pattern of GnRH exposure matter?
In a 1978 study in Science, GnRH delivered in pulses sustained pituitary LH and FSH release, while continuous exposure suppressed it. Pulse pattern is therefore a central variable in GnRH research.
How does gonadorelin relate to kisspeptin?
Kisspeptin acts one step upstream: it stimulates the hypothalamic neurons that release GnRH, through the receptor GPR54. Reproductive-axis research often uses both, kisspeptin to probe the GnRH neurons and gonadorelin to act on the pituitary directly.
Is this gonadorelin third-party tested?
A third-party certificate of analysis is not published for this product. Contact ORP before ordering if your work needs particular identity or purity tests.
How should gonadorelin be stored?
Keep the lyophilized powder at -20°C, sealed and protected from light and moisture. Reconstituted solutions are commonly kept at 2-8°C in single-use aliquots; validate the use period for your own protocol.
Is gonadorelin for human use?
No. ORP sells gonadorelin strictly as a laboratory research compound, not for human or animal consumption, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
