Overview

About Cartalax

Cartalax is a synthetic tripeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp (AED). It belongs to a family of short peptides, two to four amino acids long, that Vladimir Khavinson's group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology studies for their effects on gene expression in cell-culture models of aging.

It has 3 amino acids (H-Ala-Glu-Asp-OH), a molecular formula of C12H19N3O8, a molar mass of 333.3 g/mol and CAS number 85806-95-7; the full identifiers are in the lab sheet above. ORP supplies it as a lyophilized powder for in vitro and preclinical research only. It is not for human or animal use and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

In a 2023 study in Advances in Gerontology, AED was added to human mesenchymal stem cells undergoing replicative aging and increased gene expression and protein synthesis of the chondrogenic differentiation markers SOX9, aggrecan, type II collagen and COMP. A 2020 study in the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine compared AED with the dipeptide KE in human skin fibroblasts during replicative aging.

In a 2020 study in Molecular Biology Reports, AED, alongside the peptides KED and KE, was tested at nanomolar concentrations on the expression of genes linked to cell aging, including IGF1, FOXO1, TERT and NF-κB, in human mesenchymal stem cell cultures. A 2020 review from the same group lists AED among short peptides studied in neural and immune-cell differentiation.

Almost all published work on AED comes from this one research group and uses cell-culture models, so independent replication is limited. Its closest relative in this catalog is Epithalon, the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG) from the same research program.

Researchers usually confirm identity against the sequence and a molar mass of about 333 by mass spectrometry, and purity by HPLC. A third-party certificate of analysis is not published here for this product; contact ORP before ordering if your work needs particular identity or purity tests.

Storage protocols

Cartalax storage and handling

Lyophilized
-20°C
Long-term storage, as supplied
Reconstituted
2-8°C
In solution
Full handling protocol+

Store lyophilized Cartalax at -20°C, sealed and protected from light and moisture. Let the vial reach room temperature before opening so moisture does not condense on the powder.

Reconstituted peptide solutions are commonly held at 2-8°C and divided into single-use aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Validate the solvent, concentration and use period for your own protocol.

FAQ

Cartalax FAQ

What is Cartalax?
Cartalax is the synthetic tripeptide Ala-Glu-Asp (AED), studied in cell-culture research on chondrogenic differentiation and gene expression in aging cells. ORP sells it for laboratory research only.
What is the Cartalax amino acid sequence?
Ala-Glu-Asp, written H-Ala-Glu-Asp-OH or AED: three residues, molecular formula C12H19N3O8, molar mass 333.3 g/mol.
What is the CAS number for Cartalax?
85806-95-7. Its PubChem compound ID is 87815447.
How is Cartalax related to Epithalon?
Both come from the same short-peptide research program. Epithalon is the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG); Cartalax is the tripeptide Ala-Glu-Asp (AED), the same sequence without the final glycine.
What does Cartalax research study?
Mainly gene expression in cell-culture models of aging: chondrogenic markers in mesenchymal stem cells, aging-related genes such as TERT and FOXO1, and skin fibroblast function. All of this is laboratory research in cell cultures.
Who has studied Cartalax?
Most published AED studies come from Vladimir Khavinson's group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, so independent replication is limited.
Is this Cartalax third-party tested?
A third-party certificate of analysis is not published for this product. Contact ORP before ordering if your work needs particular identity or purity tests.
How should Cartalax be stored?
Keep the lyophilized powder at -20°C, sealed and protected from light and moisture. Reconstituted solutions are commonly kept at 2-8°C in single-use aliquots; validate the use period for your own protocol.
Is Cartalax for human use?
No. ORP sells Cartalax strictly as a laboratory research compound, not for human or animal consumption, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
