Cerebrolysin is a peptide preparation derived from pig brain protein. Unlike most compounds in this catalog it is not a single molecule: it is a mixture of short peptides and free amino acids produced by enzymatic digestion, studied in laboratory research on neuronal survival and brain-injury models.
Because it is a mixture, it has no single amino acid sequence, molecular formula or molar mass. Its CAS number, 12656-61-0, identifies the preparation as a whole. ORP supplies it as a lyophilized powder in 60mg vials for in vitro and preclinical research only. It is not for human or animal use and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
The preparation is made by controlled proteolytic digestion of purified porcine brain proteins, keeping the low-molecular-weight fraction of peptides and free amino acids. In a 2015 study in Drug Testing and Analysis, researchers at Ghent University used liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry to identify 638 distinct peptides in a Cerebrolysin sample, most of them fragments of tubulin, actin and myelin basic protein. They found no fragments of known neurotrophic factors such as BDNF, NGF or GDNF.
The name Cerebrolysin also belongs to a medicine made by EVER Pharma in Austria and registered in a number of countries outside the United States, where it is supplied as a ready-made solution in ampoules. It is not approved by the FDA. This listing is a lyophilized research preparation for laboratory use, not that licensed medicinal product.
Laboratory research on Cerebrolysin has looked at reported neurotrophic-like effects on neuronal survival and neurite outgrowth in cell culture, and at rodent models of ischemic stroke, traumatic brain injury and neurodegeneration.
Because Cerebrolysin is a mixture, a single HPLC purity figure or a single-mass identity check does not describe it the way it does a defined peptide; characterization relies on peptide profiling and amino acid analysis. A third-party certificate of analysis is not published here for this product; contact ORP before ordering if your work needs particular tests.
The areas where this compound appears in the published research literature.
Published Cerebrolysin work uses primary neuronal and neural progenitor cultures, with readouts such as cell survival and neurite outgrowth, and rodent models of stroke, brain injury and neurodegeneration, with histology and behavioral scoring.
Because the material is a mixture, researchers characterize it by peptide profiling and amino acid analysis rather than against a single sequence. Each research protocol sets its own model, controls, concentrations and handling; this listing supplies the compound, not a protocol.
Store lyophilized Cerebrolysin at -20°C, sealed and protected from light and moisture. Let the vial reach room temperature before opening so moisture does not condense on the powder.
Reconstituted peptide solutions are commonly held at 2-8°C and divided into single-use aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Validate the solvent, concentration and use period for your own protocol.
